Press release was both cause and solution of dispute

TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT – An HR employee in a large Danish company was fired for having broken his confidentiality requirement in relation to what an employee had told him as part of a personal conversation.


The termination was announced both internally and externally, without the HR employee having any influence on the form or the content of the announcement.

During the resulting lawsuit demanding compensation for unjustified termination, mediation resulted in an agreement about economic compensation for the HR employee.

Agreement was also reached on the word choice of an announcement that was later sent out to the same group of people who received the earlier announcement of the termination, which was important for the HR employee’s professional reputation and self-image.

This type of solution would never have been reached as the result of a lawsuit
